In 2018, Pasadena decided to pursue a permanent suicide prevention barrier on the Colorado Street Bridge. More than eight years later, the temporary fence remains.
The project has gone through successive design rounds without reaching agreement on a permanent concept. Who decides next Public Works and the project team develop options. The commissions and Public Safety Committee review them. The City Council then decides whether to approve the concepts. No confirmed date for the next Bridge decision has been found. See each body’s role.
What the 2028 date means June 30, 2028, is the City’s target date for finishing the design phase. Construction will still need funding and approval of a contract.
